Namesake with Ben Soffer: Friday, May 29th, 2026

Episode of The Toast · May 29, 2026 · 1 h 19 min

Jackie Oshry and guest co-host Ben Soffer discuss Love Island USA's new cast, Summer House drama, Tristan Thompson's vasectomy, Scooter Braun on Taylor Swift, and the Knicks.

Summary

With Claudia Oshry out sick, Jackie Oshry hosted The Toast alongside her brother-in-law Ben Soffer. They celebrated the birth of a new nephew to Olivia, reminisced about the short-lived podcast The Breath, and discussed the New York Knicks' playoff run, which Soffer described as historically dominant; he also criticized Spike Lee over a pin worn at the All-Star Game and praised celebrity fans Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

Oshry introduced the Love Island USA season 8 cast and her mock podcast concept 'Namesake', leading to a discussion of Ben Platt, whom Soffer argued had abandoned his Zionist upbringing for career reasons. On Summer House, Soffer called Amanda Batula a victim of both Kyle Cooke and West Wilson, described Wilson as a love bomber, and recounted his own business dispute with Cooke involving Spritz Society and Loverboy; Oshry argued Batula's betrayal of her friendship with Ciara was the core issue. They also noted breakup rumors between KJ Dillard and Dara Levitan.

On Tristan Thompson's vasectomy, disclosed on Khloé Kardashian's podcast, Oshry called the embryo arrangement fair to Kardashian. Discussing Scooter Braun's interview on Suzy Weiss's Second Thought, Soffer argued that Taylor Swift should blame the seller rather than the buyer of her catalog and that TikTok has changed the music industry. The episode closed with music preferences, Soffer's criticism of the Remarkably Bright Creatures film adaptation, Oshry's early impressions of the novel Yesteryear, and a Skinny Spritz update.
