“because the president is a capricious buffoon who has introduced incredible instability in trade”
Pod Save America: Impeach Pete Hegseth? (Sep 29, 2026) · Listen from 7:38
Lovett argues voters no longer believe Trump's promises, treating the steel plant as something to believe only when they see it.

Pod Save America: Impeach Pete Hegseth? (Sep 29, 2026) · Listen from 5:20
Lovett argues that forecasts of falling gas prices are unreliable because markets already price in known expectations.

Gas prices fell in early summer: the AAA national average dropped below $4 on June 18 for the first time since March 30 and reached $3.83 by July 2, after Brent fell below $71. Prices then rose again and set seasonal records, $4.03–4.07 in mid-August and $4.15 on Labor Day, reaching about $4.43 by September 30. So the war's energy-price pain lasted through late summer, but summer was not clearly the worst stretch, since early summer brought relief from spring levels.
